Kai Rooney scored four goals as Manchester United’s Under-18s thrashed Burnley 6-0 on Tuesday.
Kai, son of United’s all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney, stole the show as Darren Fletcher’s side cruised to a convincing victory in the Under-18 Premier League North.
The 16-year-old opened the scoring after 22 minutes, knocking home the rebound after Jaume Camacho’s header struck the post.
The teenager doubled his tally from the penalty spot shortly after half-time, after being brought down by Burnley captain Dylan Morison.
He completed his hat-trick in the 63rd minute, heading home Jay McEvoy’s corner, before adding a fourth just three minutes later with a powerful finish from inside the box.
Camacho and substitute Noah Ajayi added late goals to complete the rout. The result moves United into second place in the table, with six wins from their opening eight league games.
A Family Legacy
Rooney is following in the footsteps of his father, who became one of the best players in the world while at United and remains a bona fide club legend.
The eldest of Wayne and Coleen Rooney’s four sons, he joined United’s academy in December 2020, aged 11, and this season made his first appearance at Under-21 level.
Academy Pathway
A number of United’s Under-18s have recently earned senior debuts, including Chido Obi, Harry Amass and Shea Lacey.
